The quality gate: where humans still beat the model
By Hannah Lowe9 min readJUN 2026
Automation gets a translation most of the way there. The last stretch, the part that decides whether a message lands or quietly fails, is still human work.
Our linguists sit at every quality gate. They catch the register that reads wrong for an elder, the term that carries a different weight in one community, and the number that a machine transposed without noticing.
None of this shows up in an accuracy score. It shows up when a reader trusts the message, or does not. That is the difference the gate protects.
